In the summer of 2014, Leap Frog ran its first pilot program with 38 inner-city children in Akron, Ohio. The average reading gains for these students using Dibels testing was 415% with a 3.26 month gain versus their peers who on average lost 3 months during that summer. This 6 month difference allowed our students to double their achievement for the year and dramatically changed their achievement trajectories.
For the younger students, this trajectory will see them close the achievement gap altogether and put them in line for fourth grade reading proficiency. Proficiency in fourth grade is the strongest predictor of high school graduation, college attendance and future earning power.
Next year, Leap Frog hopes to scale this program throughout the great state of Ohio and end the achievement gap for our low-income students forever.
